Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday launched 67 development schemes worth more than Rs 284 crore in Pithoragarh, comprising 33 completed works worth Rs 105.30 crore and 34 newly begun works worth Rs 178.76 crore. Cheques worth over Rs 1 crore were distributed to beneficiaries under self-employment schemes run by the Industry, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries departments. Dhami said the admission process has begun for the Pithoragarh medical college, being developed at a cost of over Rs 750 crore, which will offer medical education opportunities to youth in the border district. He also referenced the Pithoragarh-Bans-Amlaghat road and bridge project, which is intended to reduce travel distance in the area, and said pilgrim and tourist numbers to Adi Kailash have risen since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, with this year's pilgrim count expected to exceed one lakh, generating new opportunities in homestays, transport and local trade.
