Akhilesh Yadav Names Abdul Mateen Siddiqui as New Uttarakhand SP Chief
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has appointed Abdul Mateen Siddiqui, a Nainital-based leader, as the new president of the party's Uttarakhand unit, replacing mahant Shubham Giri.
Current Summary
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has appointed Abdul Mateen Siddiqui, 66, as the new president of the party's Uttarakhand unit, replacing mahant Shubham Giri, who had served as working president for over eight months. Siddiqui, who hails from Nainital district, has previously held roles including general secretary and state in-charge of the Uttarakhand SP, and contested the Haldwani assembly seat on a party ticket in 2007 and 2012 without winning. This marks the first time the Uttarakhand SP has appointed a Muslim leader as state unit president. Alongside forming a new state executive committee, Siddiqui has been asked to focus on nearly 20 seats with significant Muslim populations across Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun and Nainital districts, and to also work in bordering Muslim-dominated districts of western Uttar Pradesh.
